Who We Are

DSC_0664_edited.png

The Bellwether Project is a collective of genre-bending artists creating work for theatre, film, and hybrid spaces. The principles that guide our collaboration are "radical nuance" and "radical joy.” Bellwether believes that in order to challenge hierarchical power structures in the world, we have to challenge them in our own collaborative spaces first - and so we are committed to a communal and egalitarian devising process.

Mission: To tell untold, intersectional stories - whether in content or in theme - and channel them through a medium of performance that best suits their unique exploration.

Founding members include Aubyn Heglie, Timiki Salinas, Jack Dentinger, Emilia Suárez, Jacob Wesson, Megan Forster, and Nikki LoPinto who first started making work together while studying at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama.

Dr. Rees Ziti's Pageant for a Better Future is a zany, comedic, disturbing story of 9 women competing in a televised pageant in 2079, where only one will win and retain their reproductive rights.

In the wake of climate catastrophe, overpopulation, and intensive resource control, the US government has instituted a weekly event to determine the woman who will be allowed to “lead society into a better future” via procreation, while the rest are forcibly sterilized. The gaudy spectacle is hosted by part-time celebrity, part-time doctor, and Nevada’s favorite queer icon: Dr. Rees Ziti! This harrowing night of starry-eyed-reality-show-thrills takes a poignant look at the history of eugenics, the social control of femme bodies, obsession with youth and beauty, and the fundamental right that is reproductive self-determination.
